China Plans to Deepen Cooperation with the United Nations and Jointly Address Global Challenges

The 55th anniversary of the restoration of the People’s Republic of China’s representation in the United Nations was marked on October 25. On this occasion, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Mao Ning highlighted the importance of cooperation with the UN, China’s role in the organization over the past decades, and its priorities for the future.

According to Mao Ning, the adoption of Resolution 2758 during the 26th session of the UN General Assembly on October 25, 1971, restored the People’s Republic of China’s rights of representation in the organization. She described the decision as a significant historical milestone that influenced China’s international standing, the work of the United Nations, and broader global political developments.

Mao Ning stated that over the past 55 years, China has actively participated in UN activities and consistently supported the organization’s central role in international affairs. Beijing has also attached particular importance to fulfilling its responsibilities as a permanent member of the UN Security Council.

According to the Chinese Foreign Ministry, the country’s efforts during this period have focused on strengthening international peace and security, promoting economic development, and expanding cooperation among nations. Beijing has also emphasized the importance of dialogue between different cultures and civilizations, as well as improving existing mechanisms of global governance.

Regarding future plans, Mao Ning said that China intends to further strengthen its relations with the United Nations and expand cooperation across multiple areas. She noted that the country is prepared to work alongside other nations to address challenges facing the international community.

The spokesperson stressed that Beijing will continue to fulfill its international responsibilities, support the work of the United Nations, and contribute to building an international environment based on cooperation and shared development.

According to Mao Ning, China’s long-term objective is to promote the building of a community with a shared future for humanity, with close cooperation with the United Nations playing an important role in achieving this goal.

At the same time, strengthening its position within the United Nations holds significant strategic importance for China. According to a September 2026 analysis by the American research institute Foreign Policy Research Institute, the reduction of U.S. engagement and financial support for international organizations provides Beijing with additional opportunities to expand its diplomatic influence. China seeks to present itself as a supporter of multilateral cooperation and the international order. Thus, cooperation with the United Nations serves not only as a platform for multilateral diplomacy but also as an important instrument for strengthening China’s position on the international stage.
