Chinese Foreign Minister and Israeli President Discussed the Need for a Political Solution to the Situation in the Middle East in Baku

China has emphasized the need to resolve the conflict in the Middle East through political means. During a meeting with Israeli President Isaac Herzog, Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi stressed the need to halt and reverse the forced expansion of settlements in the West Bank. The meeting took place on October 15 in Baku, the capital of Azerbaijan, of the Conference on Interaction and Confidence Building Measures in Asia (CICA).

According to China’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the meeting was held at Herzog’s initiative. The Israeli president briefed Wang on his country’s position regarding the situation in the Middle East. Herzog said that Israel wants peace and does not seek to continue the war. However, he noted that the country faces threats and challenges to its national security that require a firm response.

Herzog also praised China’s role in promoting international and regional peace. He said that Israel appreciates Beijing’s initiatives and proposals aimed at strengthening stability in the region and is ready to maintain communication with China.

For his part, Wang Yi said that promoting peace and reconciliation in the Middle East is one of the main pillars of China’s regional policy. Beijing considers the Palestinian question one of the greatest historical injustices of the current century, while maintaining that the two-state solution is the right path toward resolving it. This approach envisages the peaceful coexistence of independent Israeli and Palestinian states.

The Chinese foreign minister also highlighted the humanitarian situation in the Gaza Strip. He said that the urgent priority is to fully restore access to the territory and the delivery of humanitarian aid, so that conditions for approximately two million civilians do not deteriorate further and the humanitarian crisis does not deepen.

Wang noted that Chinese President Xi Jinping has put forward several initiatives since the beginning of this year to promote peace and security in the Middle East. Beijing views these proposals as a significant contribution to the efforts of the regional and international communities.

According to Wang, China is ready to work with the international community to strengthen a common, comprehensive, cooperative and sustainable approach to security. Beijing aims to encourage the parties to the conflict to return to dialogue and consultations, creating opportunities for a political resolution to the crisis.

Wang’s remarks come as the humanitarian situation in Gaza and the issue of Israeli settlements in the West Bank remain central to international discussions on the Middle East conflict. China’s call underscores Beijing’s efforts to once again highlight the importance of a political settlement and international diplomatic engagement in the region.
